Article Processing Charges

The International Journal of Nutrology (IJN) is an open-access journal. Readers have immediate free access to published articles. IJN does not charge subscription or pay-per-view fees for access to its journal content.

Article Processing Charge

The Article Processing Charge (APC) is USD 600 per accepted article.

There is no fee to submit a manuscript, no fee for initial editorial screening, no peer-review fee, and no fee when a manuscript is rejected. The APC is charged only after a manuscript has completed peer review and received a final acceptance decision.

What the APC covers

The APC contributes to the costs of:

manuscript submission and editorial workflow services;
editorial administration and peer-review coordination;
copyediting, typesetting, formatting, and proof preparation;
DOI registration and bibliographic metadata preparation;
online publication, hosting, maintenance, and digital preservation;
open-access distribution under the journal's license; and
technical and author support associated with publication.

Payment of an APC does not purchase or guarantee acceptance, favorable peer review, citation, visibility, or inclusion in Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, MEDLINE, DOAJ, or any other indexing or abstracting service.

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions are based exclusively on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, relevance, and suitability for the journal's scope. Editors and reviewers must not consider an author's ability to pay, eligibility for a waiver, payment status, institutional affiliation, or funding source when evaluating a manuscript.

APC and waiver administration must be kept separate from peer review and the scientific decision-making process. Reviewers are not informed of payment or waiver arrangements.

When payment is requested

No payment is requested before final acceptance. Following acceptance, the corresponding author or designated paying institution will receive an official invoice and payment instructions from the journal or publisher.

The accepted article will proceed to publication after the APC has been paid or a waiver has been formally approved. Any applicable taxes, payment-processor costs, or bank charges must be identified on or with the invoice before payment.

Payment security

Authors should use only payment instructions supplied through an official IJN or ABRAN communication after acceptance. Bank-account, card, PIX, PayPal, or other payment details are not published on this policy page because they may change and should be confirmed on the official invoice. Authors should contact the editorial or financial office before payment if they receive conflicting or suspicious instructions.

Who may pay

The APC may be paid by the corresponding author, another author, an institution, a research funder, a sponsor, or another authorized party. The identity of the payer does not affect copyright ownership, the CC BY 4.0 license, editorial independence, or the content of the published article.

Research4Life waivers and discounts

IJN provides automatic APC support based on the current Research4Life country and territory groups:

Group A: 100% APC waiver.
Group B: 50% APC discount.

Eligibility is determined from the corresponding author's primary institutional affiliation and country or territory at the time of the original submission. IJN may request institutional documentation to verify eligibility. Author order, corresponding-author designation, or affiliations must not be changed or misrepresented for the purpose of obtaining a waiver or discount.

Because Research4Life classifications may change, the list in effect on the original submission date will be used.

Discretionary waivers

Authors who are not eligible for automatic Research4Life support but cannot obtain funding may request a full or partial discretionary waiver. The request should be made during initial submission and should briefly explain why the APC cannot be paid by the authors, their institutions, or their funders.

Discretionary waivers depend on available journal resources and are not guaranteed. Requests are handled confidentially by administrative staff and must not be shared with reviewers or influence editorial decisions. A waiver request made after acceptance will be considered only when exceptional circumstances arose after submission.

Rejected manuscripts

Authors do not pay an APC or any evaluation fee when a manuscript is rejected. No invoice should be issued for a rejected manuscript.

Withdrawal

IJN does not charge a withdrawal penalty or withdrawal fee. Authors requesting withdrawal must follow the journal's Corrections, Retractions and Withdrawals Policy.

If an APC has already been paid and the article is withdrawn before publication, the APC will be refunded, less any documented non-recoverable bank or payment-processor charges. No additional editorial or withdrawal penalty will be deducted.

Refunds

A full refund will be issued if IJN or the publisher is unable to publish an accepted article for reasons attributable to the journal or publisher.
Duplicate payments and verified overpayments will be refunded.
Before publication, an author-requested withdrawal will be handled as stated above.
After publication, APCs are normally non-refundable because publication services have been completed.
A correction, expression of concern, retraction, or removal after publication does not by itself create a right to an APC refund.

Refund requests must identify the manuscript, invoice, payer, payment date, and reason for the request. The journal or publisher will provide a written decision and, when applicable, information about non-recoverable transaction charges.

Corrections and post-publication notices

IJN does not charge authors a fee to publish a correction, expression of concern, retraction, withdrawal notice, or removal notice. Financial disputes must not prevent the journal from taking action necessary to protect readers and the scholarly record.

Reprints and additional services

The APC covers the open-access electronic Version of Record. Printed reprints, extensive author-requested alterations after acceptance, or optional services outside the standard publication workflow are not included. Any optional charge must be disclosed and accepted by the author in writing before the service is provided.

Applicable rate

The APC and waiver terms communicated on the original submission date apply to that manuscript unless the authors agree in writing to a change. Future changes to the APC will be dated and published on this page and will not be applied retroactively without author agreement.
