Licenses, Copyright & Permissions

Copyright ownership

For manuscripts accepted for publication by the International Journal of Nutrology (IJN) on or after August 2026, the authors retain copyright in their work. Copyright is not transferred exclusively to the Brazilian Association of Nutrology (ABRAN), the International Journal of Nutrology, or the journal's editorial and production service provider.

Each article must display a copyright notice identifying its actual year of publication and its copyright holder or holders. The production team must insert the publication year and the names of the authors in the Version of Record; generic placeholders must not appear in the published HTML or PDF.

License granted to the journal

Upon acceptance, the authors grant ABRAN, as the owner and publisher of IJN, a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, and continuing license to:

  • publish the article as the Version of Record in IJN;
  • reproduce, distribute, communicate, display, index, archive, and preserve the article in print, electronic, and other formats;
  • register and distribute the article's DOI and bibliographic metadata;
  • make copyediting, typesetting, accessibility, formatting, and metadata corrections that do not alter the scholarly meaning of the work; and
  • identify IJN as the original place of publication.

This license is non-exclusive. The authors retain the rights described below and may reuse their work without requesting permission from the journal, provided that the original publication is properly acknowledged.

Open access and Creative Commons license

IJN provides immediate open access to its published articles. Unless a different license is clearly stated on an individual article, the Version of Record is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under CC BY 4.0, users may:

  • copy and redistribute the article in any medium or format;
  • adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the article; and
  • use the article for commercial or non-commercial purposes.

These uses do not require separate permission from the authors or publisher when the license conditions are followed. Users must provide appropriate attribution, include a link to the CC BY 4.0 license, indicate whether changes were made, and must not imply endorsement by the authors, IJN, or ABRAN. No additional legal or technological restrictions may be applied that would prevent uses permitted by the license.

Required attribution

When IJN content is shared or adapted, attribution should include, whenever reasonably possible:

  • the name of the author or authors;
  • the title of the article;
  • the name International Journal of Nutrology;
  • the article DOI or a link to the Version of Record;
  • a link to the CC BY 4.0 license; and
  • an indication of whether the material was modified.

Rights retained by authors

Subject to the rights of third parties and applicable law, authors may:

  • share the submitted manuscript, accepted manuscript, and Version of Record;
  • deposit these versions in institutional, subject, funder, or general-purpose repositories without an embargo;
  • use the article in teaching, presentations, theses, dissertations, books, and future works;
  • translate or adapt the article;
  • distribute the article to colleagues and through academic or professional networks; and
  • reuse figures, tables, data, and other original material created by the authors.

Reuse should include a full citation and DOI link to the Version of Record and should indicate when the material has been changed.

Third-party material

The CC BY 4.0 license applies only to material for which the authors or publisher have authority to grant the license. Images, tables, figures, data, text, trademarks, or other third-party material may be excluded from the article's Creative Commons license when indicated in a credit line or other notice.

Authors are responsible for identifying third-party content, obtaining any permission required for publication and reuse under the article's license, providing appropriate credit, and submitting evidence of permission when requested. Users who wish to reuse excluded material must obtain permission directly from the relevant copyright holder unless an exception or limitation under applicable law permits the intended use.

Author declarations and responsibilities

By accepting the journal's License Agreement and Consent to Publish, the corresponding author confirms, on behalf of all authors, that:

  • all authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript and the author list;
  • the corresponding author is authorized to communicate with IJN on behalf of all authors;
  • the work is original, except for material properly attributed and used with permission where required;
  • the work does not unlawfully infringe copyright, privacy, confidentiality, contractual, proprietary, or other third-party rights;
  • all necessary permissions and consents have been obtained;
  • the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal; and
  • the authors have disclosed relevant funding, competing interests, ethical approvals, and prior dissemination.

If copyright is owned by an employer, institution, government, or another party, the corresponding author must disclose this before publication and provide any authorization required to grant publication and open-license rights.

Previously published content

For content published under an earlier agreement, copyright ownership is governed by the agreement in force when the article was accepted. The license notice displayed on the individual article and its Version of Record governs permitted reuse. IJN will not apply a new license retroactively unless the relevant copyright holder has authorized that change.

Article processing charges

Copyright ownership and editorial decisions are independent of the payment of publication charges. Submission and publication fees, eligibility for waivers, and payment conditions are described separately on the Article Processing Charges page. Payment or waiver status must not influence peer review or editorial decisions.

License Agreement and Consent to Publish

Authors of accepted manuscripts must complete the IJN License Agreement and Consent to Publish. The agreement must be consistent with this policy: authors retain copyright, grant IJN non-exclusive first-publication rights, and authorize distribution of the Version of Record under CC BY 4.0.
